The PHAI represents the federal government’s response to the community-requested solution for the cleanup and local, long-term, safe management of historic low-level radioactive waste in the municipalities of Port Hope and Clarington.
Trees roots were made for pruning - PHAI
Mar 11, 2025 · Preserving trees during Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) activities remain a top priority. CNL consults with qualified arborists to consider methods of remediation around trees and works closely with property owners to determine the feasibility of leaving trees in place while cleaning up historic low-level radioactive waste on the property.

Major Achievement at the Port Granby Water Treatment Plant - PHAI
Apr 2, 2025 · Since the start of construction at the Port Granby Long Term Waste Management Facility in 2011, over 1.2 million tonnes of historic low-level radioactive waste has been excavated and stored in an engineered aboveground mound 700 metres north of the Lake Ontario shores.

Solving short-term storage at Strachan Street Ravine - PHAI
Apr 2, 2025 · The waste was consolidated in 1988 and positioned against the roadbed under clean shielding until it was safely removed as part of Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) activities in 2022. Approximately 8160 tonnes of waste was removed and securely transported to long term storage at the Port Hope Long-Term Waste Management Facility.
