The PhD programme at UTM is a core research-oriented programme designed to make students engage deeply with their subject matter, developing expertise through coursework, comprehensive exams, and research projects. The process fosters critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and academic rigor.

The Doctor of Philosophy Field of Research: Mechanical Engineering (PKMM) is offered on a full-time basis. The duration of study is in between a minimum of three (3) years to a maximum of eight (8) years. The PhD candidate must be supervised by a Graduate Faculty.

Ph.D. students are required to register and pass the following courses. Research Methodology course (course code UKEP0010), to be taken once during study. Students are advised to take this course in the first semester of study. One University Elective Course (course code U*** ***3), to be taken once during study.

PhD thesis is the main component of a PhD programme. PhD students are required to register their research every semester and need to complete the following courses.
