What Is Pepcid Injection? Pepcid (famotidine) Injection is a H2 histamine blocker used to treat ulcers of the stomach or intestines. Pepcid Injection may be used to prevent intestinal ulcers from returning after treatment.

Famotidine is indicated for short term treatment of patients with symptoms of GERD (see CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY IN ADULTS, Clinical Studies). Famotidine is also indicated for the short term treatment of esophagitis due to GERD including erosive or ulcerative disease diagnosed by endoscopy (see CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY IN ADULTS, Clinical Studies).

Famotidine is available as a 10-mg/mL concentrated injection in 2-mL single-dose vials and 4- and 20-mL multiple-dose vials.

Famotidine is a competitive inhibitor of hista-mine H2–receptors. The primary clinically impor-tant pharmacologic activity of famotidine is inhibition of gastric secretion. Both the acid concentration and volume of gastric secretion are suppressed by famotidine, while changes in pepsin secretion are proportional to volume output.
