The Lola T70 is a sports prototype developed by British manufacturer Lola Cars in 1965, the successor to its Mk6. Lola built the aluminium monocoque chassis, which were typically powered by large American V8s.

Nov 22, 2020 · The T70 was purchased by Penske to contest the triple crown of endurance racing: the Daytona 24 Hours, Sebring 12 Hours and Le Mans 24 Hours. Like all Penske’s cars of the period, it ran in the dark blue and yellow colours of the Sun Oil Company (Sunoco).

Apr 26, 2010 · Among the many interested parties in the lighter & more powerful Lola was Roger Penske as he bought an example for Mark Donohue to race. Penske's preparation standards were more than a match for Wyer's & at Daytona in February of 1969 the T70 finally scored its 1st major international victory.

Fortunately, Penske Racing won the 1969 Daytona 24-hour outright in their Mk3B and it was the model’s best result. Based on Lola’s potent Can-Am challenger, the T70 Mk3 Coupé could be seen as GT40 replacement.

Jul 7, 2014 · The season started well when Donohue and Chuck Parsons piloted the battered Penske car to victory in the Daytona 24 hours (perhaps the T70’s most memorable success) but that was where the international victories stopped.

The chassis, SL76/139, was sold to Roger Penske's team and made it racing debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in February 1969, wearing blue Sunoco livery. The new T70 took the checkered flag, beating a slew of Porsche 908s failing to finish.
