Jul 6, 2016 · Pee Dee “The Pirate” did not become East Carolina University’s mascot until 1983. A live wildcat was the mascot from 1930-31. A Great Dane named "Buc" became the mascot in 1958, followed by a large white French Poodle in 1968.
