Pathein (/ ˈpəθeɪn / pa-THAYN; Burmese: ပုသိမ်မြို့; MLCTS: pu. sim mrui., [pəθèɪ̯ɰ̃ mjo̰]; Mon: ဖာသီ, [pʰasɛm]), formerly called Bassein, is the largest city and the capital of the Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar.

It's a thriving, busy city, particularly along the riverfront – Pathein is Myanmar's most important delta port outside Yangon – and in the markets near the Shwemokhtaw Paya, the principal religious site.

Pathein Township is located in the Irrawaddy Delta, spans over the southern edges of the Arakan Mountains and includes a significant coastline with the Bay of Bengal. Most of the Townships is low-lying delta plains.
