When to cut palm fronds - PalmTalk
Jun 18, 2022 · I generally leave fronds on until they are brown and dried out. The palm will "eat" the oldest fronds for nutrients to power new growth, so by cutting them off early you are depriving the palm of nutrients. Cutting off a live frond is also a risk for fungal or bacterial infections, since it leaves and open wound.

Apr 8, 2009 · Even in a tropical place with high rainfall, larger palm fronds (Roystonea, Clinostigma for instance) take a LONG time to decompose. Up to ten years or so. It’s a bit unwieldy at full length, holding it up and try to cut and avoid falling debris. The one and two section lengths is best and easy to handle.

Palm fronds as mulch - DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE
Oct 12, 2011 · Palm fronds make a great mulch, layed down flat or chipped. I lay my large fans down and just chop my pinnate leaves up with the hand pruners, then at some point I just throw a top layer of wood chips on them. If you have a 10 hp chipper you can chip Washingtonia fronds no problem as long as you let them dry out first.
