The Pennsylvania Railroad's class L2s [1] was a class of USRA Light Mikados originally purchased (1919) for the subsidiary Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. Similar in size to the home-designed and built L1s, the L2s was easily distinguishable by their radial-stay fireboxes and Hodges fabricated trailing trucks.

Feb 2, 2003 · L2s: Five USRA Light Mikados acquired when the PRR absorbed the GR&I. Smaller than the L1s. L5 : Siderodded, jackshaft drive electric locomotives, really 2-4-4-2 in wheel arrangement. 21 were built, twenty of them DC electric, one AC.

Dec 21, 2022 · The L2s was built before the Feds took over. They are not USRA designed. Well, I believe they were built by Alco Schenectady in 1919 and they were under USRA oversight. PRR did not want the 33 destined for them but they did, through the GR&I keep five of them until being scrapped in the late 1940s.

There is one surviving PRR Class L1 2-8-2 locomotive. It is number 520 that is now on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, PA. USRA allocated "Mikado-Light" locomotives.

Built by Alco March, 1919 as a USRA light Mikado for PRR Subsidiary Grand Rapids & Indiana, GR&I number 108. Renumbered PRR 9627 in 1921. Dropped from roster November, 1948.
