Launched on January 1, 1985, VH1 (which was an acronym for Video Hits One) originally focused on music and, later, pop culture-related programming aimed at older audiences than its sibling channel MTV. The network currently targets African-American audiences with original reality television programming, and unscripted comedies.

May 28, 2024 · VH1 started in the mid-80s as the Adult Contemporary version of MTV. VJs included John "Bowzer" Bauman (of Sha Na Na fame) and Scott Shannon, with some 60s specialty shows ("My Generation" with Peter Noone as I recall).
