Old Speakers vs New Speakers - AVForums
Mar 28, 2014 · Speakers tend to be tuned with an 80Hz peak in the response - much like the old BBC LS3/5 and this gives the impression of deeper bass but without the actual extension. Speakers are usually more efficient now and will handle higher power levels to boot.
Old High-end Speakers vs New Good Entry Level Speakers
Jul 1, 2013 · It was the 2 modern speakers that sounded woolly, less airy, less detailed, less dynamic, cruder, more pipe and slippers. It's entirely reasonable to say that it's a complere myth that old speakers sound vintagey whilst modern speakers sound modern. Poor to mediocre old speakers sound vintagey. TThe really good ones don't.
Using old speakers for Atmos - AVForums
Jun 1, 2010 · I have some Tannoy SFX that I have re-purposed as front heights just below ceiling height with my setup and whilst personally I dont feel I get the full atmos experience with overhead effects (most likely as my room isn't great and probably not located accurately) I do get a greater and higher front soundstage than when just running 5.1.
AV Receiver Recommendations To Use With Old Bose Speakers …
Dec 29, 2010 · Thanks for that - very helpful. I notice that some of the speaker wires are frayed/worn from their connectors. I think that may be an issue as the connecting wires don't connect to the cube speakers in a manner I'm used to to with 'clip' connectors, rather they are terminated plugs that look specific to the speakers and end with a single push fit connecto
Worth upgrading old Denon/Mission bookshelf speakers?
Jun 2, 2018 · The turntable is an ancient Ariston RD80 (I think - the badge came off a while ago) with an Ortofon OM5E, with a Rega Brio 3 amp, and a pair of bookshelf speakers inherited from a Denon UD-M30 system - a bit of googling tells me that they're actually Mission MS-50s.

NO IMPROVEMENT IN HI FI SPEAKERS FOR 30 YEARS - AVForums
May 22, 2017 · Hi-fi enthusiasts (the ones worth listening to) are a pragmatic lot. If old speakers give them the best sound for the price paid, then that's what they'll stick with. But they will keep an open mind and test old speakers against new from time to time. Mission 770's are good speakers for what they are. Carry on using them and enjoying them, rogercr.

The sub-woofer is a newish Klipsh Reference Premiere 1000. These will be driven by a Denon AVR-4800H receiver. The BP10 and BP8 speakers were purchased used. I have...
info sought on these old Celef speakers... - AVForums
Jan 7, 2005 · I've trawled the web, i've even contacted Celef(Proac), but I cant find any info on these amazing old speakers. All Celef could tell me was the manufacturers of the individual units. Anybody know a good site where I might find some info? A review from an old hi-fi magazine would be good too. The label on the back says : Celef Studio Professional.
Buying old speakers, opinion/knowledge - AVForums
Jan 21, 2017 · In the old days far more speakers were sealed boxes. When it comes to sound quality, speakers may well have gone backwards over time. It's the triumph of marketing slimline boxes over purist engineering. I've not known magnets losing power to be an issue on any of my old speakers. The OP is on the right trail with his list.
