Runcorn in Cheshire expanded significantly in the 1970s. The New Town project provided modern and planned places to live and work for the many people moving to Runcorn from Liverpool. But newsreel cameras caught aspects of the town’s history even as far back as 1932.

To the west of the Central Expressway lies the Old Town of Runcorn, Higher Runcorn, Weston, Weston Point and Clifton (formerly Rocksavage), and the new town estates of Halton Brook and Halton Lodge.

There have been some finds dating from about 1750-1550 B.C. on the lower ridge extending from Runcorn towards Knutsford, notably a Bronze Age stone axe-hammer found at Weston Point and a bronze palstave at Runcorn.
