Jan 26, 2015 · Yet, a furor is exactly what occurred in this northeast Oklahoma county in late 1975, a time when even fewer people lived in the area, when residents reported several encounters with a large, hair-covered, bad-smelling creature that would soon be dubbed the Noxie Monster by the local media.

The reported sightings panicked residents, and armed bands of hunters have been roaming the rolling timber covered hills along the Oklahoma-Kansas border hoping to get a shot at the creature. Nowata County Sheriff Bob Arnold is more worried about the hunters than the monster.

Fourteen investigators made the trek from Oklahoma City to Fouke, including Roy Ramirez, Association assistant director for Oklahoma (and organizer of the Noxie expedition), and J. Robert Jenni, scientific consultant and big game hunter.
