Nobuo Fujita was the only Japanese pilot to bomb the U.S. mainland, dropping incendiary bombs near Brookings in September of 1942 during World War II. A total of four bombs were dropped over two occasions with the intent of starting forest fires; however, due to damp conditions, little damage occurred.

Nobuo Fujita was conscripted into the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1932 and began flight training a year later. In 1935, he began testing experimental Zero fighters. After his West Coast bombing mission, he made only one more reconnaissance, over Noumea, New Caledonia, and spent the rest of the war in Japan training new pilots.
