Microsoft Encarta is a discontinued digital multimedia encyclopedia and search engine published by Microsoft from 1993 to 2009. Originally sold on CD-ROM or DVD, it was also available online via annual subscription, although later articles could also be viewed for free online with advertisements. [1]

Microsoft saw an opportunity that created a solution to outdated printed encyclopedias, so in 1985, it began working on a digital version that would eventually be called Encarta.

AFAIK Encarta wasn't replaced with anything by MS since most people just use the Internet to find out what they want to know. There might be another encyclopedia program made by someone else. Use Google to find out.

Jul 5, 2023 · Unfortunately, the Encarta software is discontinued and is not compatible with Windows 10. While it may be possible to find a download of its ISO on sites of "abandonware", or software that is no longer available from or supported by the original software company, it will not run on WIndows 10.

Jan 29, 2023 · Microsoft please return to Encarta. Personally I would go as high as $100 for an updated version. Check out the Encarta World Atlas 1997 Edition and pull up Ukraine. It predicts in there that Crimea "may become a future cause for conflict". Man I loved it. Grew up playing trivia games on it.
