The Wilson Worsdell X2 (NER No. 957) 2-2-4T Locomotive. This locomotive was originally built in 1874 as an 0-4-4T B.T.P (Bogie Tank Passenger) locomotive (LNER G6). It was given the number 957, which it kept for its entire life. It was rebuilt into a 2-2-4T in April 1903 specifically for hauling an officer's saloon.

They were: No. 66 Aerolite rebuilt as a 2-2-4T in 1902 and later known as in LNER class X1; No. 957, which had been rebuilt from a BTP class 0-4-4T in 1903 and later classified as X2 class. NER 190 Class, later class X3 had two members, Nos. 190 and 1679, both rebuilt from 2-2-2 tender locomotives. [1]

In 1903, No. 957 was rebuilt as a 2-2-4T (LNER X2). Many of the G6s became redundant with a reduction in passenger services in the later years of World War 1. This led to withdrawals starting in 1920. In 1921, ten of the idle G6s were rebuilt to create further Class 290s (LNER J77s).

The SDR contributed 157 locomotives to the NER stock and these initially kept their SDR numbers. From 1873, the SDR locomotives were renumbered, mostly by adding 1000. [ 89 ]
