On January 4, 2023, the band announced that its sole remaining original member, Neal Doughty, would retire from touring with the band after 55 years. [31] Bassist Bruce Hall said Doughty would always be part of the REO brotherhood, and left open the opportunity for Doughty to appear at select dates. [ 32 ]

Neal was a founding member of REO Speedwagon, the only one still in the current line-up. 157 Riverside Avenue, the oldest track still in the REO live set, owes a great deal to Neal’s virtuoso improvisation, whereas on Ridin The Storm Out (1973), Neal introduced the classic Minimoog synthesizer sound to REO’s line up.
