Jun 13, 2022 · A total of 29 NASCAR drivers have died in the Cup Series since NASCAR’s inception. Of these deaths, 14 occurred during races. Just five deaths occurred at the top in the 90s and 2000s. Thankfully, there have been no deaths in the NASCAR Cup, Xfinity, or Truck Series since the 2001 season.

Edward T. “Ed” Hinton, 76, died Feb. 6, 2025 at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. He was born July 21, 1948, in Laurel. Former NASCAR broadcaster and pit reporter Bill Weber died on Dec. 13, 2024, the National Motorsports Press Association announced Monday. He was 67.

May 17, 2020 · Since the first NASCAR race on the sandy beaches of Florida in 1948, there have been a total of 28 deaths on the track. The first occurred in 1952 at Langhorne Speedway in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, when Larry Mann’s car crashed through a fence and flipped.
