Received this device as "surplus". All data on device was erased using KILLDISK. Windows XP Device Manager can see “WD My Book 1100 USB Device” (1 TB) and reports “The device is working properly”, but Windows Explorer (“My Computer”) cannot see it – does not show a drive letter for it. Same result when using it on Windows 7 notebook.

I was told by WD support that my issue wasn't a WD product issue, but a Microsoft Windows issue. I'm using Windows 10. My WD MyBook external will allow me to drag and drop files from the external to my desktop, while denying me access to others.

Dec 8, 2011 · I have a WD MyBook Home external drive that is not detected by Windows 7or XP. It was working ok, then I did a full format to NTFS from FAT32 using Win7 Disk Management in order to use it in the auto Win7 Backup & Restore Utility. Unfortunately, Win7 nor XP will no longer recognize it after formatting when it is attached to a USB.

Dec 13, 2021 · Hi, had the same issue, and the first time uninstalling\installing again I2C HID from the device manager helped me, but when the issue come back a few weeks later the previous solution did not help.
