Apr 27, 2021 · Dogs who don’t like to pull a sled or aren’t good at it don’t stay on dog teams. We just lost our 14 year old pupper who was a dog yard “reject” - born into it but not cut out for it. So we adopted him and he was a happy house pet. Mushing dogs have it in their genes and love to be outside working.

May 31, 2022 · Hi all, newish owner to an acquired water softener with new house. I haven’t had to fill it up with salt yet as it was filled when I moved in.

My mushing mentor has said a lot of this is puppy stuff which is certainly true, but I don't want her to be practicing and thus reinforcing bad habits especially in a formative period. I suppose I'm looking for creative ways to work on impulse control and concentration with a "focus forward" mentality rather than a "focus on me" one.

While still using the term 'musher' to refer to ourselves and 'mushing' as a name for the sport very few (if any) mushers say "mush" to drive their teams. Most say "hike" or "get up". I personally just say "ok!" when we start then whistle if I feel it's necessary to signal to the dogs that we need to pick up the pace.
