Now working on a new album, he continues to travel the world singing Shalamar’s hits and his own songs. MMS reporter Lloyd Gite recently sat down with Howard Hewett for a chat about his music career, family, Jody Watley, and being accused of selling drugs. MMS: How would you describe yourself?

Jan 11, 2022 · After the divorce, Hewett carried on with his career and eventually met Mori Molina at an after-party. There are no details on when they married, but in January 1986, the couple was busted for possessing drugs. Hewett revealed that he was not aware Molina was dealing with drugs until the arrest.

When Shalamar broke up in the mid-1980s, Hewett went on to a solid solo career. However, in 1985 before signing his solo deal with Elektra Records, he was arrested and indicted in Miami with his fiancée Mori Molina for possession with an intent to distribute cocaine. [10]

He and his then fiancee, Mari Molina, were originally arrested in 1985 in a shopping mall parking lot by federal officers for possesion with intent to distribute a kilo of cocaine. According to the Sun Sentinal: ‘Howard’s defense lawyer, Richard Sharpstein, called Howard’s involvement a case of guilt by association.
