Moof! is the sound made by a creature known as a dogcow. To understand why Moof! is such an important sound, you need to know a little about what it means to be a dogcow---which requires a bit of insight into its creation. The dogcow was born in the early eighties at Apple Computer.

According to a technical note provided by Apple Computer in 1989, the dogcow visually resembles a dog with a nose and spots like a cow.
