So What Would Thom Get? Any of the Z cameras are solid choices, so it depends a bit on what you want and need. DX: The Z50II is the smallest, most travel-worthy camera of the bunch, but none are slouches in that regard. The Zfc is a mild update to the original Z50 internally, but externally it grew a bit to accommodate the retro dial-based UX.

I review cameras differently than most Web sites: I use them, often extensively, in the field before writing my opinions. In just the reviews so far, these cameras have been to Argentina, Australia, Belize, Botswana, Chile, Ecuador, France, Galapagos, Germany, Guatemala, Mexico, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, and Zambia, as well as a host of United States locations.

One thing to note is that the Z cameras don't have to filter light through a partially silvered mirror before it gets to the focus sensors. That means those focus sensors are getting considerably more light on them, which impacts accuracy.

DSLRs — one of the uses of the mirror contained in the traditional DSLR is that it splits off some light to a phase detect sensor. Phase detect sensors are interesting, because they can report not only which direction the focus is off (near/far) but also by how much.

The connections on the X-H2S are as you'd want them to be: microphone in and headphone out (3.5mm jacks under separate doors), USB-C 3.2 with USB Power Delivery capabilities under another door, and a full size Type A HDMI socket under a flap (not a door).

While it might seem like I'm picking a lot of nits, one thing to be clear about is that the R6 is a high-end camera with a lot of capabilities. With that comes complexity and sometimes small irritations trying to find how to change something.
