Crosscode also has fluid pixal art and leveling up, but it’s not a Metroid game. There’s also Lone Survivor which is like a 2D Silent Hill. You mentioned Metroid Fusion and the horror theme it has and Lone Survivor does something more extreme. It was made by one developer but there’s a remake coming out soon.

May 4, 2019 · Super Metroid is supposed to be a very dark, lonely, desolate game and really bright colors don't really say that too well. I think that's why the original pallet has a lot of color but still tends to have those colors be shaded or hued to make it pop less.

May 24, 2022 · Well, I'm not super experienced doing pixel art so I'm pretty slow. I've made a few posts of my progress on the project now. The first version was just the front-facing suits from the 3 Prime games and Fusion, which probably took a few months.

Beautiful pixel art and very manageable to beat. Really immersive gameplay, and if you set the option “hold to attack” it becomes almost relaxing as you float and dash around while holding the attack button. I highly recommend if you like good pixel art! it’s 55% off right now on steam and I would pay full price for this one!

It’s so much easier to make 3D environments and characters instead of pixel art for a AAA game, as amazing as the results could be with the funding and expertise. The only way we’re seeing new pixel-art Nintendo games is gonna be fangames or the rare indy partnership like Cadence of Hyrule.

Mar 4, 2021 · It's so ingrained into my gaming brain that it's easy to overlook, but that might be where my love of good pixel art began. And probably Blasphemous for the last one. Of course, all of the Metroids, Castlevanias, and Shantaes have great pixel art. The Messenger, Timespinner, Chasm, Aliens: Infestation, and Mystik Belle have great pixel art as well.
