Under the title “PROTOTYPE – An exhibition of the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection at Studio Odeonsplatz”, the art collection of Mercedes-Benz will present the works of six international contemporary artists from 25 January to 22 March, 2025, who approach the phenomenon of the prototype and its potential for innovation in diverse ways.

The Mercedes-Benz Art Collection was started in 1977 and has grown continuously since then to its present total of about 1800 works. The collection reflects the 20th century’s trend-setting abstract-constructive, conceptual or minimalist views of the image.

The early focal points of the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection – the reduced, constructivist-concrete and minimalist direction of 20th century art – have been expanded since the 1990s to include works by the generation of artists born in 1945/1950.

Die frühen Sammlungsschwerpunkte der Mercedes-Benz Art Collection – die reduzierte, konstruktiv-konkrete und minimalistische Richtung der Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts – wurden seit den 1990er Jahren um Werke der 1945/1950 geborenen Künstlergeneration erweitert.

Der Prototyp als Leitmotiv schlägt in der Ausstellung der Mercedes-Benz Art Collection eine Brücke zwischen Kunst und Automobil – zwei Bereichen, in denen prototypisches Denken von höchster Relevanz ist.
