The Mercedes-Benz 230E was a variant of the W123 Sedan that was introduced for the 1981 model year. The 230E replaced the 230, and featured the introduction of fuel-injection. These cars were powered by Mercedes' M102.980 engine, which was a 2.3L inline four fitted with Bosch's K-Jetronic fuel-injection.

The 230E (“E” for Einspritzung, or fuel injection) W123 was launched in 1977 and sold virtually everywhere but the US; we received the 240D instead. In 1985, the model carried on, now updated to Mercedes’ W124 chassis, with its squared headlamps and sharper body lines.
