The Mekon was the ruler of the Treens of northern Venus, although he was ousted from this position at the end of the first story and had no fixed base of operations. He was created by scientific experimentation, engineered for very high intelligence.

Designed to live approximately three centuries, he was the latest in a long line of Mekons, each created to lead the Treens, with an ultimate goal of universal conquest. Totally evil, the Mekon was finally overthrown by Earth's Dan Dare, but continued to return to plague Dare and the galaxy on numerous occasions.

The Mekon escapes from his high-security prison, and in the space-clipper "Magenta" he heads for Venus where he causes much mischief using a ray that makes the Treens commit suicide.
