Oct 29, 2013 · Theydon't need to have steel toes or anything. I was looking at magnum boots online, that I guess are made for cops and soldiers. One is called a stealth force 6.0 and the other is an interceptor 6.0. This is only a 3 month gig, and I only get $100 allowance to buy boots, but I get to keep them at the end.

Jun 25, 2024 · Topo has a wide toe box as well. And a boot/hiking shoe version. You don’t see too many thru hikers young or old in boots of any sort now. I think the common wisdom has come to be that the marginal ankle support of boots is not worth the extra weight to pick up every step. That said here is a link to the Topo boot.

Dec 9, 2020 · I spent a couple years (1982-83) backpacking in Sorel pack boots and while warm and mostly waterproof they are CLUNKY to hike in and just slowed me down. Great for living outdoors in the winter, not so great for long term backpacking. Plus, a forgotten fact---These rubber type boots can cause bad toe infections over time as the feet don't breathe.

Plan on 12 to 18 months delivery and $500 plus for cost. THey also require a long break in. Once they are broken in some folks have had them for 20 plus years. They are built to be rebuilt and can be resoled.

I'm seriously considering to carry a set of such nails on a hike where there is a small chance of a need for traction enhancement, just in case.
