May 3, 2011 · The 30W charger from the MacBook Air definitely doesn't have enough power to supply both USB-C and USB-A ports on my Caldigit SOHO dock. My M1 MacBook Air goes to sleep when using clamshell mode if I plug in an ethernet adapter and then a thumb drive. I guess if the charge falls off, the power circuit thinks the MBA isn't plugged in to the charger.

Apr 4, 2019 · Sure. An Anker charger etc should work fine. You can use a 70w charger and your Air will only use 30w. You can also use the little 20w iPad Pro charger, it will just charge a bit slower. A 20w does keep mine at 100% while using, and they are only $19 at Apple.
