Using a chromatin immunoprecipitation assay, we found high levels of RNA polymerase II bound to the cad promoter in quiescent NIH 3T3 cells and in differentiated U937 cells, even though the promoter is inactive.

Several promoters have been proposed to be c-Myc targets based on this criterion; dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) and carbamoyl-phosphate synthase (CAD) both contain E2F as well as the Myc E-box sequences (116, 126). However, there is no other established regulatory link between DHFR and Myc.
