The 600 MKT (Missouri, Kansas & Texas) NW-2 Switcher was a one-year-only item from 1955. Although not an easy item to locate in collectable condition, its rather plain exterior -- as well as limited features -- has made this a less-than-exciting diesel.

Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad (reporting mark MKT) NW2 8 and SW9 17 at Kansas City, Kansas on August 15, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The NW2 is well prepared for road movement in either direction with both permanent class lights and air horns facing both ways (near the headlight on this end), and sun visors.

McALESTER 0K July 10 1978 -- Katy NW2m 7 awaits a crew and an assignment. EMD built the unit as MKT 1026 (s/n 4583) in January 1947 and delivered it in red. It was repowered by EMD to 1200HP in 1959-60.
LIONEL TRAINS MKT NW-2 DIESEL SWITCHER No. 600
The Lionel MKT NW-2 Switcher No. 600 used a RED body with WHITE heat-stamped lettering and railroad herald. This engine had operating disc couplers at both ends, but there was no interior illumination, horn, nor was there a chassis skirt.

Lionel NW-2 Restoration and Upgrade - Trainz
Jun 4, 2021 · Pictures on the .Net showed that MKT actually had NW-2s that looked very similar to this model. Some had yellow paint on the outside handrails fore and aft. They also had their diesel exhaust stacks painted in silver.

Lionel 600 M-K-T NW2 Diesel Switcher Engine - Postwar
We have tested and serviced it and it runs, pulls and operates great. There is a crack in the nose that has been repaired and it has the normal play wear. This is the version that has 2-axle magnetraction. Most #600's only came with 1-axle magnetraction. Features:
