VW Golf MK4 1.8T vs VR6 : r/GolfGTI - Reddit
I wanna buy a mk4 golf and I’m not sure if I should get the 1.8T or the vr6. My goal for the car is to daily it and just have fun with it, essentially a oem+ setup. If I were to get the 1.8T I would probably change the ecu, cold air intake , exhaust, some coilovers and rims, for the vr6 probably the same thing just no ecu.
What to look out for when buying a MK4 GTI : r/GolfGTI - Reddit
Dec 6, 2023 · Usually "never lose" 1.8T's are tuned and abused to get someone to do a compression check on it and go over the engine and trans really good before you make an offer. Also rust is an issue especially by the bottom rear or front fenders. If the fender isn't cleaned out every once in a while the rot can migrate to the rocker and floor in that area.
Mk4 1.8t GTI vs GTI VR6 : r/GolfGTI - Reddit
Nov 15, 2017 · If you aren’t planning on modding the piss out of it, get the VR6. If you wanna go crazy with mods on the cheap, get the 1.8t. VR6 sounds worlds better and is faster stock. 1.8t will leave the VR in the rear view with minor modification. Also the 24v VR6 is a 6-speed, as far as I know you’ll have to get a 20th AE to get the 6-speed 1.8t
How much HP can i realistically get with the 1.8T? : r/MK4GTI
Aug 29, 2022 · The crank shaft and pistons are forged oem. the rods are not forged and will break after 300hp or so. You'll need to do a bigger turbo like a gt2871 as well as a bunch of other shit. 3500 is cheap if the car is actually mint and doesn't need a bunch of repairs. I love my mk4 but you'll need to do quite a bit to get 350hp reliably.
How reliable is a mk4 1.8T : r/Volkswagen - Reddit
Aug 15, 2022 · I had an 01 Jetta GLS 1.8t 5spd in highschool, sold it to a friend at 240k he sold it at 270k. Many cars and years later I have an 05 Audi TT 225 1.8t that I love. It has 201k on it. Makes nearly 290hp and gets ripped on daily. Never hiccups. I add 1qt every 1500km or so. Take care of it and it will take care of you! The 1.8t is a gem of an engine.
2001 MK4 GTI 1.8T Auto : r/GolfGTI - Reddit
Aug 3, 2023 · Found a 2001 MK4 GTI 1.8T Auto trans with 207K KM for 5K CAD on FB. Within the last month it had timing belt and water pump replaced along with all the tensioners and other belts, etc. The ABS light is on due to a fault in the ABS pump and a speed sensor, but I’m assuming that’s not a huge deal or expensive fix.
Golf 4 GTI 1.8T engine tune up : r/ECU_Tuning - Reddit
May 24, 2021 · I need some help deciding what to upgrade on my 1.8T to make it around 250whp. I know i need a bigger intercooler and a cold air intake and minimum of 2.5inch exhaust and ofc a remap. When i got the car it was neglected badly and on the way back home it broke the gear that timing belt sits on and skipped time, luckily it bent only the exhaust ...
The age old question: 1.8t vs VR6 (MKIV) : r/Volkswagen - Reddit
May 13, 2014 · Copy/Pasted from my response in the last 1.8T vs VR6 thread: 1.8T: easier to make lots more power out of, and for cheaper lighter, helps with car's weight distribution for handling cool DV sound with upgraded DV, & turbo induction noise with an intake again, easier to make more power out of when modifying VR6:
Is a MK4 1.8T a good daily? : r/Volkswagen - Reddit
Jul 1, 2023 · I put 90k on a Mk4 Jetta 1.8t in high school and college. Bought it with 100k on it, sold it with 190k when I graduated and needed a wagon to facilitate a cross-country move. I beat the crap out of it and the only maintenance other than preventative stuff was a new clutch at 110k. I had a bunch of weird stuff go on with door/trunk locks tho.
