I guess the reason for it might be that if you’re looking for a 1:1 bottom gear, you get the slightly higher top gear by going with 52/36 and 11-36 vs a 50/34 and 11-34. Of course, you do get some slightly wider jumps elsewhere in the cassette as the price of that.
