M4A3E2 Assault Tank – postwar nickname "Jumbo" – extra armor (including 1 inch on front, making it able to withstand shells from the German 88 millimeter guns), vertical sided turret, but about 3-4 mph slower at 22 mph. Built by Grand Blanc May-June 1944 with the T23 turret.

From May to July 1944, the Army accepted a limited run of 254 M4A3E2 "Jumbo" Shermans, which had very thick hull armor and the 75 mm gun in a new, better-protected T23-style turret ("Jumbos" could mount the 76 mm M1 cannon), to assault fortifications, leading convoys, and spearhead armored columns.

Introduced in Update 1.45 "Steel Generals", the M4A3E2 is a makeshift heavy tank based on the original M4A3 Sherman variant. Though it appears to be a standard M4A3 Sherman medium tank, it can absorb significantly more damage than any M4 Sherman variants and can efficiently assault enemy positions.

The M4A3E2 was the only "second generation" Sherman turret design that didn't include a pistol port. Restorers might be interested to know that a Pressed Steel Car plate was found on the interior turret wall of a surviving M4A3E2.

It has been decorated like it is the famous Sherman M4A3E2 Jumbo “Cobra King” which was the first to break through the German lines at the Battle of Bastogne, but this is not the original tank.

The Assault Tank M4A3E2 'Jumbo' was a more heavily armoured version of the Sherman produced to lead attacks during the invasion of Europe. In 1942-43 an attempt had been made to produce an assault tank using the power train of the M4, with a largely new chassis and suspension from the Heavy Tank M6.
