Dec 15, 2023 · The mask you have pictured is not a standard "lightweight" army gas mask. The mask pictured is an M2 (maybe actually an M2A2) "heavyweight" gas mask. They made 10 million + of the M2 series from 1940 - 1949. I’m not up on what the marines used and I see very few photos of marines with masks on from WWII to get a solid gauge on the subject.

Dec 18, 2022 · A few years ago, I picked this bag and an M2(?) Gas Mask from a surplus store on Oahu. It has the name G W Grant written on one side of it. Below it is the numbers 60987. I haven't any idea what this number is for. I have done some research on the name and number but have not come across any definitive results.

In TM 3-205 dated October 9, 1941 it states: "In training pieces to be procured in the future, the MI and MIA1 will be designated M2 and M2A1, respectively, since they will be the same as the service M2 and M2A1.
