Lustron houses are prefabricated enameled steel houses developed in the post- World War II era United States in response to the shortage of homes for returning G.I.s by Chicago industrialist and inventor Carl Strandlund.
Lustrons were prefabricated, porcelain steel-enameled houses built in the United States between 1948 and 1950. The design and manufacture of Lustrons aimed not just to satisfy the immediate postwar need for affordable housing, but to raise the quality of living for middle-class Americans.
