For other boats that time is 12 years. For other boats that time is 22 years. etc. etc. But mother natures rotting agents will win against a wood transom every single time. Best wishes. p.s.

Using a composite replacement like Coosa Board comes up often. However, no one seems to mention any actual results or experience with using it on an aluminum boat.

May 3, 2019 · Have owned 3 Lunds, 2 used ,1 new, (all pre Brunswick.) including my current Lund bought new in 2001. No transom,or any problem with current boat. Previous,a 1988 Lund ,bought used, had a couple issues early, not a transom, that Genmar responded to well, despite not original owner. No issues with first one, a 1982 bought used in 1985.

Sep 7, 2022 · It's my understanding that if you put in a rigid transom into a boat that was not designed for it( ie- Lund) then you would incur stress cracks at the corners where the hull meets the transom and splashwell. There are qualities in the wood such as minor flexibility that accommodate for that. I would seal the transom , as Frank does.

Mar 27, 2013 · Pull the motor and a bunch of screws and bolts out of the back of the boat and in about 10-15 hours, you can have the boat back together again. Not a good idea to run the boat with the bad transom. The Solid interior of the transom is a very big part of the boats structural strength. Good luck and may it be changed easily and without incident.
