This also shows on the superboss, where Terry gets the ability to cleanse debuffs (note, he can also cleanse Rage) while mad dog gets enraged himself.

Hopefully you have a Spiked Club, since you'll need that to recruit him (two locations you can find one of those at, far as I'm aware)
