Nov 8, 2020 · The LiuQin is the closest Chinese instrument to the mandolin. I think one of the tunings they use is GDAE. I wonder if anyone has bought one either from an importer in the US or directly from China and if there are some that are decent playable instruments.

Nov 26, 2023 · Btw my liuqin which I use in concert cost $120US whereas my F mandolin costs about 15x that. Maybe I should just sell the F mandolin and stick with mandocello only. For those of you who own a F mandolin - they are such a beautiful crafted instrument, the reluctance despite not playing mandolin much makes it hard to part with!

May 8, 2013 · "Full of Joy" is traditional Chinese music while the above liuqin solo is a comtemporary composition. Its title is "Sword Dance", like most Chinese music, it is program music. Oct 22, 2013 · The best ones are small leaf sandalwood - they are nowhere near as challenging to sculpt as a professional A or F mandolin and cost much less for a professional model. I got put off the liuqin just not having a tutor, although without a mandolin tutor now, I guess there is not much difference. The pipa lute is rather special.
