Lie Ren, more commonly referred to by his surname Ren, is a character in RWBY. He is a Huntsman, a former student at the now defunct Beacon Academy, a member of the now inactive Team RNJR and one of the remaining members of Team JNPR.

Back at the Cotta-Arc house, Ren, Nora and Jaune learn the truth about Ozpin and Salem, leaving Ren to wonder how they can defeat Salem if she is immortal. After Jaune lashes out at Oscar, Ren excuses his team to have time to themselves.

Li Ren was a capable hunter of Kuroyuri village who wielded a bow and arrow in combat. He also carried a backup dagger which he gave to his son Lie during the attack on Kuroyuri. Li was, however, only a hunter and was far from being as powerful as the Huntsmen.

Lie Ren is Nora's childhood friend, as well as her classmate from both their previous school and Beacon Academy. He is occasionally bothered by his friend's hyperactivity, which sometimes makes him angry enough to raise his voice, but he does show her genuine affection and sees her as a valuable friend.

Lie Ren alludes to Hua Mulan, which follows JNPR's theme of people who dressed as the opposite gender. [1] Mulan had to disguise herself as a man to sneak into the Chinese army. Ren's battle outfits have Chinese influences.
