Leo Frederick Burt (born April 18, 1948) is an American man indicted in connection with the August 24, 1970 Sterling Hall bombing at the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus, a protest against the Vietnam War.

Oct 12, 2014 · At 3:40 a.m. Aug. 24, 1970, Burt and three accomplices ignited a truck bomb that tore through the university’s Sterling Hall. The anti-war movement’s most powerful and frightening explosion of rage, it killed physicist Robert Fassnacht, 33, and injured three others. Eleven days later, Burt vanished.

The bombers were Karleton Armstrong, Dwight Armstrong, David Fine, and Leo Burt. They called themselves the "New Year's Gang", a name which was derived from an exploit on New Year's Eve 1969.
