The SIG P210 (Swiss Army designation Pistole 49, the civilian model was known as SP47/8 prior to 1957) is a locked breech self loading, semi-automatic pistol designed and manufactured in Neuhausen am Rheinfall (Canton of Schaffhausen, Switzerland) by SIG from 1948 to 2006.

The P49 (Pistole 49), Switzerland’s standard issue military sidearm from 1949 to 1975, is one of those vintage guns with a reputation that seems too good to be true. I’ve always wanted to test one, but their rarity and high price tag was an obvious obstacle.

Sole example of the P-49 intended to provide higher performance than the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. After indecision on a new engine, the experimental Continental XIV-1430 V-12 engine was selected. This engine never went into production while flight testing revealed the XP-49 was slower than the P-38J.
