Kutnohorite - Wikipedia
Kutnohorite is a rare calcium manganese carbonate mineral with the formula CaMn 2+ (CO 3) 2 in the dolomite group of minerals. [6] It forms a solid solution with the other group members dolomite and ankerite. The mineral was originally spelt "kutnahorite" but "kutnohorite" is the current IMA-approved spelling.

Ankerite-Kutnohorite Series. The cation ordering is temperature-dependent: Unpublished studies cited by Goldsmith and Graf (1960) indicate that cation disordering in synthetic CaMn(CO3)2 begins at approximately 450°C.

Kutnohorite: Properties, Uses, Occurrence – Geology In
Kutnohorite is a rare calcium manganese carbonate mineral with magnesium and iron that is a member of the dolomite group. The crystals often occur in rounded granular masses, sometimes in fan, but rarely in single crystals. Kutnohorite was first described in 1901 by A. Bukowsky.
Kutnohorite - Franklin Mineral Information - FOMS
Kutnahorite is a calcium manganese carbonate mineral. Numerous unpublished analyses by [Dunn] of specimens from both Franklin and Sterling Hill, show minimal substitution of Fe, Mg, and Zn in kutnahorite; values for FeO, MgO, and ZnO are all < 1.2 wt. %. Mucci (1991) obtained slightly higher values for one specimen.
Forms two series, with dolomite, and with ankerite. Dolomite group; ordered Ca:Mn ' 1:1, commonly with substitution by Mg and Fe2+. Typically in deposits associated with manganiferous sediments. Rhodochrosite, aragonite, calcite.
40 Facts About Kutnohorite
Oct 27, 2024 · Kutnohorite—a mineral with a name that sounds like a spell from a fantasy novel—isn't just a tongue-twister. This mineral, often found in shades of pink, white, or gray, is a carbonate mineral composed of calcium, manganese, magnesium, and iron. But what makes kutnohorite special?
KUTNOHORITE (Calcium Manganese Magnesium Iron Carbonate)
Kutnohorite, or also spelled as kutnahorite, is a rare carbonate mineral. It is a member of the dolomite group and is difficult to distinguish from dolomite except for the increased density in kutnohorite. Kutnohorite is named after it type locality which is …
Kutnohorite
A beautiful, truly sculptural specimen with finely filigreed crystals of kutnahorite in curving rows and layers twisting upon each other. Usually this style is labeled simply as kutnohorite, but there is probably some manganoan calcite mixed in as well (it's a series) in the underlying, less crystallized platelike layers upon which the finely ...
