Keiss (Scottish Gaelic: Cèis) is a fishing village at the northern end of Sinclair's Bay on the east coast of Caithness in Scotland's Highland Council area. [1]

Nestled in the rugged landscape of Caithness, Scotland, lies a hidden gem steeped in history and shrouded in mystery – Keiss Castle ruins. Imagine standing on the cliff’s edge, the North Sea’s waves crashing below, and the winds carrying tales from centuries past.

Keiss is a fishing village at the northern end of Sinclairs Bay on the east coast of Caithness. Keiss Castle, which is now partially ruined, is located less than 1 mile north of the village centre, on sheer cliffs, overlocking the bay, and has been a major tourist attraction for many years.

With a picturesque harbour at the start, two overgrown brochs and wartime coastal defences, there’s plenty of man-made interest en route. And this area been rich in wildlife on our two visits too, with otters, seals, shelducks and a great northern diver among the sightings.

A fantastic coastal walk, rugged in part, taking in the remains of an iron-age broch, stunning coastal scenery to reach the impressive ruins of cllifftop Keiss Castle before returning by the same route.
