Kater Murch's research group focuses on engineering the quantum system-environment interaction to preserve coherence, to prepare complex many body states, and probe fundamental issues related to measurement, quantum foundations, and thermodynamics.

(Feburary 2018) Kater is named one of the 2018 Cottrell Scholars by the Research Corporation for Scientific Advancement. (Feburary 2018) CAREER: Heat, Work and Information in Quantum Circuits. Kater is awarded an NSF CAREER grant to explore quantum thermodynamics with superconducting qubits.

In 2018, Kater received the Cottrell Scholar Award and an NSF CAREER Award. I earned my PhD in theoretical quantum optics from Louisiana State University in the summer of 2024, where I worked on imaging and sensing with quantum states of light, open quantum systems, and quantum networks.

Dec 29, 2020 · The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation announced Feb. 23 that Kater Murch, PhD, assistant professor of physics in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, has been awarded a 2015 Sloan Research Fellowship.

Kater Murch’ s research strives to advance the state of the art of qubits using an exciting new technology. Dr. Murch's research team will build an interface between two spin states as qubits and existing superconducting qubit technology.

Apr 12, 2021 · Kater Murch has been promoted to full professor effective July 1, 2021. Murch’s research focuses on the interface of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) and condensed matter physics. Using nano-fabrication techniques to construct superconducting quantum circuits allows his group to probe fundamental questions in quantum mechanics.
