Sep 5, 2014 · Both crossovers are out. Lots of KEF and Alcap branded caps here. Some are labelled LL, which according to Falcon Acoustics stand for "low loss". Four woofers. One rotted foam doughnut, one that looks a little bit off-center, the other two seem to be OK. Glad they have rubber surrounds though.

Mar 7, 2021 · I bought a replacement capacitor kit for the crossovers in my Kef 104/2 speakers. I purchased the kit from Falcon Acoustics, and they matched all my old capacitors for value except for two 50u/100v caps.

May 14, 2019 · Started recapping the crossovers of my KEF 104/2s with a set from falcon acoustics, today. All that is left to replace on the first crossover is a 3.3uf cap. All that is left in the replacement set is a 5uf cap and a 3.3k resistor.

Nov 19, 2020 · I own a pair of KEF 104aB (technically 104s with a KEF Kit 104aB crossover). Capacitors have been replaced courtesy of Falcon Acoustics. I love these speakers, and I'm in no rush to replace them.

Sep 22, 2020 · Some useful tips to Kef 104/2 Ref Series speaker owners. Use as much power as you can. I have two systems running the rosewood finish bi-amp version of these speakers.

Sep 11, 2019 · Also the speaker has to be pretty well disassembled to get to the crossover so you want everything lined up correctly once you are in there. I have a pair of modern KEF Q55's and they sound "on par" with the Polks. So I'm going to go to believe the 104/2 need some upgrades.

Feb 9, 2017 · Just a update , had the crossovers checked out today by a great SMAC member Ed and tested out very well . Caps and resistors are good . Going to give it another week looking for 1 woofer for a 104. 2 and then it's time to part the rest of the them out .

Jan 18, 2025 · My 104/2's (with new fluid/caps) sound a bit bright when using my Sansui AU-919, but oh so sweet with my B&K ex4420 (mosfet) amp. Many prefer the smoother mosfet sound with their KEF's. After replacing the fluid in mine, the gasket was far from perfect.

Apr 8, 2019 · This is a simpler way to biamp compared to removing the crossover from the circuit entirely and using an outboard active crossover, which you then have to tweak to get it sounding right. I'm not going to suggest that you do this mod, or not, because I have no experience with KEFs except that everyone says they're great speakers.

Apr 4, 2019 · I measured the distance between the bass driver and crossover in the original place and in his place. It does not make a difference. I left the original board first for aesthetic reasons, secondly, the board paths are really solid compared to the capacitor legs.
