Dinamakan sempena nama sebuah pulau kecil yang terletak di Teluk Kimanis di antara Pulau Labuan dan Kota Kinabalu. Kapal perang ini dibina di limbungan Penang Shipyard SDN BHD dan ditauliahkan pada 29 Mei 2001 oleh Mantan Panglima Tentera Laut iaitu Laksamana Dato’ Seri Abu Bakar bin Abdul Jamal.
