K·B Toys (also known as Kay Bee Toys) [1] was an American chain of mall-based retail toy stores. The company was founded in 1922 as Kaufman Brothers, a wholesale candy store. The company opened a wholesale toy store in 1946, and ended its candy wholesales two years later to emphasize its toy products.

After multiple sales and bankruptcy protections, KB toys was finally closed down in February 2009. The brand was acquired by Toys R Us then purchased back by Strategic Marks in 2016. But before we talk about the end let’s talk about the beginning.

Oct 5, 2021 · I just miss anything KB. No real toy stores anymore. TRU is gone. We have a great local shop with old school stuff (Playmobil, LEGO) though. I used to roll in to KB and get slot cars, board games - ah the memories.

One of my favorite memories as a kid in a very poor family was going to KB Toys and looking at clearance items. My brother and I got Mega Man and MagMax for $5 and $8 respectively. Obviously at that point they were older games, but that was a big deal to us.
