A janissary (Ottoman Turkish: یڭیچری, romanized: yeŋiçeri, [je.ˈŋi.t͡ʃe.ɾ̞i], lit. 'new soldier') was a member of the elite infantry units that formed the Ottoman sultan 's household troops.

The Janissaries, first formed by the Sultan Murad in about 1360, were the world's first regular standing infantry force, and the core of the Turkish army until 1826. Originally they were recruited from the children of Christians living within the bounds of the ottoman Empire: all those who had attained the age of 7 years were subject to inspection.

Janissary Armor is manufactured by the Hahne-Kedar Shadow Works. It has fairly high damage protection and shields, but low biotic and tech protection. Janissary Armor is available for humans, krogan and turians.

Surviving examples of Anatolian and Janissary armor show ornate, and quite effective use of lamellar, mirror plate pieces tied to cloth or chain mail, and of course, literary sources report heavy use of silk and cloth ‘armor’.

Apr 17, 2015 · It would look very strange to see professional, high-prized but unarmoured janissaries with turkish bows and arquebusiers climbing the Walls of Theodosius. I do not claim to know much on ottoman warfare but a shock-trooper doesn't necessarily rely on heavy armor.
