Reid Island (49˚00'00" 123˚37'00" Between Thetis I and the N end of Galiano I, Gulf Is). James Murray Reid (1802–68), from the Orkney Is, worked for the HBC’s marine dept for many years, serving as mate on the supply vessels that travelled between Britain and Hudson Bay.

Reid Island is named after Captain James Murray Reid, of the Brigantine Vancouver, for 28 years of service to the Hudson Bay Company. Captain Reid was from the Orkney Islands of Scotland, and came to the coast in 1852.
