The Jacobs House is recognized as the first of Wright’s Usonian houses. It incorporates the most basic forms and materials to create elegant but minimalist design for a family of ordinary means, a response to economic and social conditions during the Great Depression.

Designed by noted American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, it was constructed in 1937 and is considered by most to be the first Usonian home. The Jacobs House is located in a residential area southwest of downtown Madison, on the east side of Toepfer Avenue between Birch and Euclid Avenues.
